The Humane Space is a haven for curious minds to learn, reflect and recharge. We craft immersive experiences that spark curiosity and widen perspective. Why is lifelong learning important?

Lifelong learning is a form of voluntary, self-motivated education that typically takes place outside of a formal educational institution. According to Procedia, a social and behavioral science journal, lifelong learning “not only enhances social inclusion, active citizenship and individual development, but also increases competitiveness and employability.” Research suggests that lifelong learning can keep our brains healthy and increase our sense of fulfillment and self-esteem.

Why is it important to live more curiously?

Curiosity is an often overlooked key to greater fulfillment in life. It’s correlated with higher levels of positive emotions, lower levels of anxiety, and greater psychological well-being. Of the 24 character strengths measured by the Via Institute On Character, curiosity was one of the most strongly linked to life satisfaction, work satisfaction, living a pleasurable life, living an engaging life, and living a meaningful life.

Why is it important to incorporate awe into my daily life?

Experiencing awe has been found to increase feelings of well-being, life satisfaction and sense of meaning. A 2021 study found that people who feel more awe reported feeling lowered levels of daily stress – suggesting that the sense of vastness that awe elicits can help put our worries into perspective.

What is The Humane Space app?

The Humane Space is a haven for curious minds to learn, reflect and recharge. We craft immersive experiences that spark curiosity and widen perspective. In the app, you'll find daily lifelong learning, self-reflection prompts, Awe Walks, Mind Journey guided visualizations, original soundscapes, and more.

How do I use the app?

Each day, we curate Segments of original content. We encourage you to explore content Segments in the app by exploring the Home, Explore, and Spaces screens using the navigation bar on the bottom of the screen. Today's Discoveries show our curated selection of Segments for each day that are grouped by a theme. Each Segment shows its length and modality (reading, watching, listening), making it easier to fit curiosity into your day when it's best for you. Individual activities include:

You can navigate Segments on our Home screen by scrolling down to see what sparks your curiosity. To navigate within a content story, swipe right/left to move forward/backward. Checks appear next to each segment, letting you know what you've marked complete. When you've completed a segment, keep swiping to the right within the content story until you get to screen with a big button in the upper right that says Mark Complete.

Spaces are groupings of activities based on a particular theme. You can see how much of each Space you've completed by tapping Spaces from the menu at the bottom of the Home screen. You can also see how many segments you've completed in the current month on the My Space area of the app, or by scrolling to the bottom of the Home screen.

How can I incorporate the app into my day?

We've heard so many different ways that people use the app. From filling idle time to taking mindful work breaks to relieving stress after a long day, we're here to give you the little boost of wonder whenever you need it. Here are some ways to incorporate the app into busy days:

Morning Mindset: Start your day with lifelong learning or a moment of reflection.

Energizing Breaks: Refresh your mind with quick activities that increase focus.

Evening Unwind: Relax with calming soundscapes, self-reflection, or guided visualization.

On-the-Go Learning: Fill idle time with engaging audio stories or mindful moments.

Autoplay: Hands-free listening while commuting, walking, or running errands.

What is a Space?

Spaces are groupings of content related by theme. Spaces explore varied topics such as national parks, color, philosophical questions, and more. You can access and complete Spaces by tapping "Spaces" in the navigation bar on the bottom of the Home Screen.

What's the best way to experience a Mind Journey?

Mind Journeys® can be experienced anywhere, anytime. We recommend being in a relaxed position, but you could even listen during a busy workday when you need a break. All of our Mind Journeys® have original sound composed by The Humane Space. We recommend, if possible, listening with headphones to get the full effect of the sound experience. Mind Journeys® are meant to help you take the break you're looking for, whether it's a nap, an energizing break, or a relaxing travel experience.

How can I listen on the go?

All of our audio experiences can be heard on autoplay for easy on-the-go listening. From the Home Screen, tap Explore on the navigation bar on the bottom of the screen, then select an activity type. From there, you'll see a big play button at the top that will activate the autoplay or simply make a selection to begin as well. The audio will continue if your phone goes to sleep as well. You can also loop entire playlists or repeat a single track while listening to Soundscapes. Easily sort and filter as well to get the autoplay list exactly as you want it for the moment. Activities that offer autoplay are: Lingo, Awe Walks, Mind Journeys®, and Soundscapes. All activities that include text can also be read.

How do I mark activities complete?

There are a few ways you can mark activities complete. On the Home screen or on any of the explore areas in the app, you'll see a menu with 3 dots next to each content module. If you tap the dots, you'll see the option to Mark Complete. If you're within any content segment, if you continue to swipe from right to left, you'll reach a screen with a big Mark Complete button in the upper right corner that you can tap. Once you've "Marked Complete," you'll see a check indicating it has been completed. If you're tracking your progress on Spaces, you'll see a white ring grow around each Space, indicating how far you are from completing that Space. A check will appear over each Space once it has been completed.

How do I track my progress in the app?

In addition to tracking what Segments you've completed (see "How do I know what I've completed in the app?"), you can also see how many Segments you've completed during the current month. On the Home screen, if you scroll down, you can see how many Segments you've completed in the current month for each activity. Going to the My Space area of the app will enable you to see how many total Spaces and Segments you've completed.

How do I know what I've completed in the app?

At the end of all content Segments, you'll have the opportunity to tap "Mark Complete." Doing so enables the app to help you keep track of what you've finished. On all Spaces, you'll see a white outline that will let you know how much of each Space you have completed. If you see a check covering an entire Space, it means you've completed that Space. Completed individual Segments will also show a check mark next to them.

What does the "Like" button do?

Tapping "Like" at the end of a Segment will help other users find content our community recommends. It's a way for us to know what our community enjoys and helps guide us to create more content that you will find interesting and engaging. Your likes are never shared publicly or within the app with other users.

How do I search content within the app?

To search for content within a Space, visit the Spaces area using the navigation bar on the Home screen. Type in the search bar to find the Space you're looking for. You can also filter and sort individual activities by tapping Explore on the navigation bar on the bottom of the screen, selecting an activity, and then hitting either Sort or Filter. You can sort, for example, alphabetically, by most recently viewed, recently published, or most liked. Depending on the activitiy, filtering offers other ways to filter to help you find what you're looking for. Options there include duration, topic, intention, status, etc.

How do I share content?

You can share Spaces, Playlists, Segments, and individual content screens within the app. To share content, open the app and navigate to any content screen. Then, on the upper right corner, you'll see a share button. Tap that button and you'll have the option to share the content as a link or as a visual (best for Instagram stories). You can also share an entire Space or Soundscape playlist from their explore screens by hitting the share button. You can share a Segment anywhere in the app by tapping the 3-dot menu and selecting Share.

Can I read instead of listening to audio segments?

Yes! Any audio Segment with accompanying text can be read by tapping "READ +" at the bottom of the screen.

How do I turn on notifications?

We will only send you one notification a day to let you know what new daily curiosities are available to explore in the app. You can set what time you want a daily notification to be received. To manage app notifications, first open The Humane Space app. Then, tap "My Space" on the dock fixed to the bottom of the Home screen. Then tap the menu button in the upper right-hand corner and tap Notifications. From there, you can set what time you'd like to receive Notifications and turn them on and off. If you've turned Notifications on in the app, and you're still not receiving them, go into your phone's settings and check to make sure Notifications are turned on there as well for The Humane Space app.

How do I gift a subscription?

When will the app be available outside the US?

We have gotten many requests to open access to the app outside of the U.S. and we're working to make it available in a broader release. Sign up for emails to get updates on releases.  You can also find great free content that we post weekly on Instagram.

How do I subscribe to the app?

If you haven't downloaded the app yet, first download it on your app store of choice and follow the instructions to begin your subscription. If you've already downloaded the app, log in and as you try to view content, you'll be prompted to begin a free trial.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel any time by managing your subscription and auto-renewal through your Apple or Google subscriptions on your mobile device.

I'm a subscriber and I'm unable to access content.

On rare occasions, your account may have become disconnected (a new phone is a big culprit). If this happens and you're being asked to subscribe again to access content, on the screen where it's asking you to subscribe, tap "Restore Purchase." This should reconnect your paid subscription to the app. If you're having any problems at all, or that doesn't work, please reach out to us at hi@thehumane.space. We respond quickly and will get you back up as soon as possible. The more details you can give us about what is happening, the better!

What is the cost of a subscription?

The most up-to-date pricing can be found in the app stores or in the app. We do pride ourselves on being priced far below comparable apps while providing a premium experience. Prices are subject to change.

Which devices are compatible with your app?

The Humane Space app is compatible with iOS and Android devices. Some functionality and graphics may be unavailable on older phones.

I have an idea for a Space. How do I make a suggestion for content?

Which languages are available on the app?

Currently, The Humane Space is only available in English. Stay tuned for updates.

How do I report a problem?

For human-to-human support, please contact us at hi@thehumane.space. A human will typically respond within 24 hours.

The app is crashing and I'm not sure why?

If the app is crashing, first see how many apps you have open. Try quitting some of the apps and see if the crashes are repeating. If they are, please email us at hi@thehumane.space with as much information as you can provide about when the crash happened and what you were doing when it crashed. We go through rigorous testing before releasing any new version. With so many types of phones available, it's possible that crash sequences can be happening for particular devices. Please note that the app was only created for phones (not tablet devices). We're grateful for your feedback in making us aware of any crashes, and we'll work to resolve any bugs as quickly as possible!

Account Settings

How does the free trial work?

Enjoy 7 days for free on the app. To get started, download the app and follow the instructions to begin your free trial, after which you'll be charged according to whichever subscription plan you chose. To cancel during your free trial before being charged, turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the renewal date.

To turn off auto-renewal, do so through your Apple or Google settings. To manage auto-renewals for subscriptions on an Apple device, click here. For instructions on managing auto-renewals for subscriptions on an Android device, click here. Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the current subscription period ends.

How do I subscribe to the app?

How do I find out what kind of subscription I have?

To see, change or cancel your subscription, follow these steps:

On an iOS device:
Open the settings on your iOS device. Tap your name at the top of the screen. Tap “Subscriptions.” There you can view your subscription, make any changes, or cancel.

On an Android device:
Open the Google Play app. At the top right, tap the profile icon. Tap “Payments & Subscriptions,” and then “Subscriptions.”

How do I find out when my subscription ends?

To see when your subscription ends, follow these steps:

On an iOS device:
Open the settings on your iOS device. Tap your name at the top of the screen. Tap “Subscriptions.” There you can view your subscription, and when it’s scheduled to either expire or renew.

On an Android device:
Open the Google Play app. At the top right, tap the profile icon. Tap “Payments & Subscriptions,” and then “Subscriptions.” There you can view your subscription, and when it’s scheduled to either expire or renew.

How do I turn on notifications?

We will only send you one notification a day to let you know what new daily curiosities are available to explore in the app. You can set what time you want a daily notification to be received. To manage app notifications, first open The Humane Space app. Then, tap "My Space" on the dock fixed to the bottom of the Home screen. Then tap the menu button in the upper right-hand corner and tap Notifications. From there, you can set what time you'd like to receive Notifications and turn them on and off. If you've turned Notifications on in the app, and you're still not receiving them, go into your phone's settings and check to make sure Notifications are turned on there as well for The Humane Space app.

How to see which email address my account is using?

If you're logged into the app, tap My "My Space" on the menu on the bottom of the Home screen. Then tap the navigation button on the upper right hand corner of My Space and tap "My Profile." You can see what email you account is using there.

If you're not logged in and you can't remember which email address you used for your account, try following these steps. If you're on an Apple phone, go to your phone's settings and tap your name on the top of the screen.  Then tap "iCloud," then "Hide My Email." Scroll down and see if there is an email listed there under "Humane Space." If so, try logging in by tapping "Continue with Apple" on the app.

How do I update my email address?

To update your email in The Humane Space app, first open the app. Then, tap "My Space" on the dock fixed to the bottom of the Home screen. Then tap the menu button in the upper right-hand corner and tap My Profile.  On My Profile, you can change your email address. Tap "Save Profile" to save any changes.

How do I reset my password?

If you're currently logged into the app, tap "My Space" on the dock fixed to the bottom of the Home screen. Then tap the menu button in the upper right-hand corner and tap Change Password.  Once you see the Password Reset screen, enter your old password and new password and tap "Reset Password" to save any changes.

If you're not currently logged into the app, open The Humane Space app. When you're asked to log into the app, type your email into the email input line, then tap "Forgot?" (on the right side of the password input line). If your account is tied to the email address you typed in, an email will be sent to that address. Follow the instructions in the email to reset your password.

If you do not receive an email, you might have typed the wrong email address or your account is under a different email address.  You may have signed up for an account using Apple's "Hide my email" feature. To check there, go to your Apple phone Settings, tap your name at the top of the screen, then iCloud, then Hide My Email. You can see if you created a hidden email for The Humane Space on that list and try resetting your password with that email address.

How do I update my profile?

To update your profile, open The Humane Space app and log in. Then, tap "My Space" on the menu fixed to the bottom of the Home screen. Then tap the navigation button in the upper right-hand corner and tap My Profile.  Edit your profile and tap Save Profile to save any changes.

How do I unsubscribe from emails?

On every marketing email we send out, there is an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Click the link to update your preferences. We may still send occasional emails with important updates and information about purchases or subscriptions.

What are your privacy practices?

We care about the privacy of your data. You can access our privacy policy here or in the app by tapping the target menu button on the upper right corner of the screen and then tap Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my account?

To delete your account, open the app and log in. Then, tap "My Space" on the menu fixed to the bottom of the Home screen. Then tap the navigation button in the upper right-hand corner and tap My Profile.  Tap "Delete my account" on the bottom of the screen.

How do I request a refund?

Your subscription was charged by Apple or Google. To request a refund for an iOS device, follow these instructions. To request a refund for an Android device, follow these instructions. With any problems or questions, please reach out to us at hi@thehumane.space.

I'm a subscriber and I'm unable to access content.
